removal of points on driving licence - Dunspeedin

I have 3 points from April 2009, which as i understand it expire in 2012. My insurance company were informed and they increased my excess as apposed to my premium when i informed them. If i ask my insurer/ and or move insurance companies. can i answer no to any motoring convictions from april 2012. Any advice appreciated.

Depends on the question that they ask

Have you any convictions (points) in the last 5 years ( year 6 no need to declare)

Have you any convictions . ( declare all)

Points from April 2009 will be used for any totting-up procedure until April 2012 BUT they can't be taken off your licence for another year after that.

Removing the points displayed on your licence makes no difference to the insurance, you still have to answer questions truthfully - so removing points at 4 years still requires you to answer YES if asked about any convictions in the last 5 years.

I've never bothered having the points removed from my licence, they do go back to the 1970's because I'm not that vain!

IF you want points removed from your licence it will cost £20, I think. However, if they are due for removal you can do a change of address (Brother, in-laws etc) for free and the new licence will be points free; wait a month and change it again, back to your real address.
