Revoked license - fixed penalty notice - polik

I managed to get 7 points on my license in the first two years (last year) I was told that the DVLA would send me a letter telling me my license would be revoked, but I never ever received such a letter!

Anyhow, I continued to drive for the last year and I was stopped last week for speeding 46 on a 30mph in Glasgow after being caught by cops at the side of the road with a speed gun. They sent me on my way with a fixed penalty notice of 3 points and 60 pounds and they didn't bother to check my license details on their system.

Now, I phoned DVLA today who have confirmed that my license has been revoked. I'm obviously going to stop driving now (should have done this before!).

My question is this though:

- Since I have accepted the fixed penalty notice, am I right in saying the maximum I will get is 3 points and 60 pounds when I go to pay the fine and take my license? Is there anyway they can overrule this, since they never checked the status of my license when I get stopped?

Please advise.

You won't get a fixed penalty afterall - you will go to court. You have been driving around without a licence since the DVLA previously revoked it. When you take the licence in to the police they will see it had been revoked.

You were aware you would lose your licence if you got 6 points or more in the first two years. And you got 7. So back to having no licence and having to get a new provisional one.

Had you done that and passed your test again you'd have had no points. But you didn't do that and decided to drive without a licence.

Expect a big fine at the very least. Just thought with no licence... no insurance either. So expect a ban.

As rtj states one of the conditions of a FPN (CO) is that you hand in a Licence for points to be added. Yours was revoked so you cannot comply. (You can try and they may fall into the trap of mis adminsistration but very doubtful?)

Not correct that it will effect your Insurance as there will be a standard sentence on the policy covering a person "who holds OR HAS HELD a licence"

Once you get all this sorted out and have done the time for the crime.

Well worth looking into making contact with the IAM or RoSPA, with so many points in short period , perhaps you need to look at your driving. Might only be points at the moment but you could be causing injury or death to your self or others if you continue as you are

You need to be careful here because you are heading towards territory you don't want to visit.

Your best course of action is gather the documents, go to the police station, and cough the lot - it will go in your favour later.

The charges I expect are driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and the speeding.

You will go to court, be fined and probably banned.

As dvd says, you do not have any immediate insurance problems, but you must inform your insurance company of your latest convictions, of which come renewal time, they are likely to take a dim view.

I think people get confused with 'invalid' insurance. The insurance company can refuse the comprehensive aspect of the cover, but not the third party cover.
