I loved my old Rangie and I don't like the new shape (far too big and blingy) so I've bought a 2002 4.6 HSE – last of the P38s. Complete heart-over-head purchase. Yeah something will go wrong and it'll probably break down but I'll enjoy myself while it's going!

I love that, just buying what you want and to hell with it. If nobody did that we'd all have a Focus Diesel. Good luck with it mate.

I loved the shape of the old Range Rovers and dreamt of getting one with a GM 6.2 diesel V8 shoehorned into it - but they probably broke gearboxes for fun :)

That would be interesting. Although I must say I prefer petrol power. I do over 30K miles per year so I'll get used to buying petrol until the old-girl pops her clogs! I guess I could start a book on what goes first - cooling system, autobox, air suspension - there's no shortage of potential problems!

Better plan on some suspension work-that diesel weighs in at about 750lb! Twice that of the beverage can Buick.

Isnt that like having a normal car but with an entire American sat on the engine?

Years back when putting a Rover V8 engine into a Cortina Mk3 I couldn't believe how much lighter it was than the four pot 2 litre pinto I took out!

Ta!

got any photos of it, or a link to a sellers listing somewhere from when you bought it?

Would love to see some pics, just so I can get straight in my head which version of the Rangie this is

As a fellow buyer of something "for fun" (Jag XJS) I admire and respect your choice

I'll have to take piccies when I get time - I bought it trade straight from a dealer pal (px car) it is identical in appearance to this one: tinyurl.com/3p2t5dg

Same colour and interior 'cept mines a slightly higher spec (HSE). Drives absolutely spot on - no problems so far (touch wood) all the electrics work. Even the heated windscreen and seats which can give you hassle.

I like that. I like the way they look really dominating on the road - I was just followed from the Scots border to Preston by an Audi Q7 and it looks pathetic in comparison to the Rangey.
