Vauxhall Corsa - Car rotten underneath - RawrJess

My boyfriend recently bought a second hand corsa from a garage.

It passed its MOT a few weeks ago, but as he was planning to visit me (2 and a half hour drive) I wanted him to have it checked over and serviced.

He has had it serviced today and been informed it will never pass another MOT as it is completely rotten underneath. He's okay with this and isn't worried about only running the car for 11 months then ditching it, but I'm worried it is not safe to drive.

Any advice please?

Sell it now or drive it slowly and hope not to be involved in an accident - look like your only choices..

The best thing to do is to contact the selling garage if it is within 6 months of sale, and if they won;t do anything involve trading standards. As the car is rotten underneath it could be illegal to drive it in that condition, and his insurance will be invalid, to look at a worst case scenario. A few years back I had a siniliar situation where a spring had damaged the top holder under the bonnet and the independant dealer gave me my money back after refusing and then getting a letter involving the threat of trading standards AND a possible small claims court. Ask your local trading standards, they will direct you and all it will cost is a phone call. If they have a case it won't cost you anything. By the way Is it a £500ish "banger" ?????

If it is that badly corroded and the MOT is a genuine one, VOSA should be informed so whoever issued the MOT is investigated. Unless someone's regularly sprayed the underside with hot salt water it can hardly have rotted that much since the test, can it?
