Why on earth do people bother to buy new cars from UK dealerships. I have recently acquired a 528 Touring, 4.5 years old with the remainder of the BMW warranty for only 10K. A 35K car(with the extras), with thankfully someone else taking the vast majority of the most expensive element of motoring from me ie DEPRECIATION. The car has done 94K miles now but drives like new-I do not wish to change it for at least the next 5 years-if anyone is tempted I can only thoroughly recommend BMW for comfort, solidity and longevity(not to mention 31 mpg overall-34 on a run!). What's more over 4 yrs old and you get a 10% discount from a main dealer.

Not what i would call cheap for a 4.5 year old car with close to 100k miles (and possibly clocked)also extras are worth near nothing second-hand.

I bought a new suit last month. Had I thought about it I could have got one from Oxfam.

A bit overpriced, cheaper to buy from a UK dealer....

If it hadn't been bought brand new by someone, you would never have had the chance to buy it second hand. Think about it.

Precisely my point, someone else has bought the car and taken the hit. On re-reading my post, it sounds like a BMW advert-something that I never intended-I only wanted to highlight what I thought was a bargain-no, it hasn't been clocked (BM warranty)- and yes it doesn't leak like my wifes 2 yr old fiesta(which I bought new(import) from M'point). in fact the BM is so far ahead of the dagenham dustbin and the paintwork is so much better that I shall be very reluctant to buy anything else in future-unless the M52 engine gives up the ghost because of dubious quality fuel!

I know where you're coming from with your purchase. In August I bought for my wife a 4 year-old (exactly, to the day!)1 owner 318SE Touring for £5700. Okay, it had done 135,000 miles but had full BMW history and extras such as sports suspension, heated door locks, leather steering wheel and cargo net. A £22k car that still looks and feels the dog's wotsits. (just wish it had a diesel engine!)
Ignore the cold water poured onto your obviously enthusistic post by some of the replies!
Enjoy the car!
Pat
PS Audis and Mercedes are just as good in my experience, but in different ways.

Wings:
This subject has been covered many times on this forum, but your post can be interpreted as:
1. Look children, my toy is better than yours and cheaper - just look at deal I have got.
2. 2nd hand BMWs are a good bargain in your opinion.
3. You think that anyone who does buys anything other than a 2nd hand BMW is a fool.
4. Anyone who buys a new car from a UK dealer is a fool.
5. Do not buy new cars from UK dealers, but do buy 2nd hand cars from them.
Why on earth do people bother to buy new cars from UK dealerships. >>
As you must accept that at some point new cars have to be bought to allow your strategy to work:
So go on, tell us where they should buy new cars from.

So why not buy a 2nd hand personally imported model? Why do you need the UK dealer then or for that matter at any time?
