Damage only, 3rd party delaying/disputing - m0bov

Hi all, back in April, whilst coming home from my nanas funeral, a car overtook a row of parked cars and smashed my mirror. Anyway, we made after her and forced her to stop. She kept changing her story and I pointed out my in car CCTV. I reported it to my insurance and the police.

The same evening we had a knock on our door from her and some bloke, who tried to change or put a spin on what happened and I let him take a few pics of my car. In the next THREE months I had the car fixed, police not interested in her failing to stop and I sent in witness statements and my CCTV footage.

On the 3 months to the day, my insurance finally after chasing them and my legal cover, said since it was under my excess they are closing the file. They said she is saying I hit her whilst she was at lights etc.. The CCTV shows this to be a lie.

My legal cover say they have sent a claim over for the repair and other losess, they say she is still denying liability and I won't get my money until she does.

This is crazy, the footage shows who is at fault (its on utube), what else can be done?? It seems mad the insurance did'nt do anything, and that someone can damage anther car and get away wih it. Any ideas??

This could be any number of issues, very possibly 'back room' reasons which your insurer would never disclose but essentially mean that it's not worth their while doing what you pay them to do and persuing your claim. The other driver might be insured with the same company meaning that they are trying to avoid paying out of their own pockets, for example.

As for the police, does your evidence clearly show her registration number at the time of incident? It's extremely dissapointing that somebody has gone to the trouble to fit CCTV to their car only to be fobbed off with lame ' we cant be bothered' policing. If your evidence is genuinely credible and they just aren't pulling their weight, try putting in a complaint and see if that assists them with the speed of their 'enquiries'. But, crucially, bear in mind that if all you have is a blurry image of some annonymous car passing by then they really won't be in a position to do much. You would need clear evidence depicting either the driver or the number plates, otherwise the police simply have your word against hers.

From one decent motorist to another, if it was me and I had her address I might feel an urge to nip round one dark evening and 'examine' the mirrors on her car, if you get my drift.
