driving through Solvenia - Movin.on

Hi everyone

I hope I'm posting this in the righ area.

I need advice on driving through Slovenia as I'm going to Croatia. An associate once told me there was a country they wanted to avoid on their way to Croatia and not drive through due to some problem in that country but I'm not sure if it was Slovenia or another country in that area of the world they were talking about. Last year I got a ferry from Ancona Italy to Split Croatia, but this year that ferry costs a few hundred Euros more, so now I'm thinking of driving and not sailing to Croatia. So any advice about driving through Slovenia is much appreciated. Thanks.

Been there, seen it, done it.

I was going from Prague to Croatia at the time. Breathtakingly beautiful, great roads and even the petrol station staff spoke perfect English. As I was coming from Graz in Austria, heading for Porec on the Istrian peninsula in Croatia and passed through Ljubljana on the way, I reckon I drove across most of it! No problems at all and I reckon your associate must have been thinking of somewhere else.

Even if there were a problem, if you are coming from Italy you are not going to be in it for long enough to notice. That bit of the E61 from the Italian border outside Trieste to Croatia is all of 25km....

Slovenia is a beautiful country - been there a couple of times. Mountains, pine forests, rivers. You will nave no problems with the roads.

Maybe you were thinking of Serbia? It's a very different story round there...

Have a look at the FCO website, it has country by country information including road travel.

Friends of our have just come back from cycling through the country from top to bottom. They found everyone friendly and welcoming and the scenery absolutely beautiful.
