Cannot see why it should. If details are not exchanged reporting to Plod as soon as reasonably practicable and in any case withing 24 hrs means that you comply with Section 172 RTA 88 and therefore cannot be prosecuted.

Small print in Policy re reporting matters to Insurance Company....???????

Just to clarify, were you the 'at fault' driver or did the other guy hit you? If you were at fault and the other party weren't overly fussed, then I really wouldn't be too worried. I wouldn't bother informing your insurance co unless you hear something out of the blue, which is unlikely.

If you've already told your insurance co, you need to be absolutely clear that you are not intending to make any kind of claim at this stage, and I would be certain to check that they haven't pulled some kind of stunt or other to deliberately misinterpret what you have told them, in order to make out that you are claiming and harm your NCD etc - remember that your insurance company is not your friend, and is interested only in taking your premiums and then doing whatever they can to get out of paying up when you need them to; so any detrimental information you provide them with, even with the best of intentions, needs to be considered very carefully indeed beforehand.

As for the Police, absolutely no need whatsoever to tell them anything at all; you have not comitted any offence (based on what you've said!) and, frankly, it's none of their business - so don't go round the local nick and let them make it their business! Innocent motoring mistakes can end up providing target-happy constables with a nice 'easy kill' earned with minium effort, so never involve them if it isn't absolutely necessary.

My apologies for the slightly negative slant to this post, but it does concern me to read of people who are completely innocent of any intentional wrongdoing but are on the verge of dropping themselves in it through their good nature and sense of duty. If you are an honest and decent enough member of society when so many others wouldn't give a damn no matter what the circumstances, then you deserve the break! ;-)

Dan - is this the same bump as in the other thread? If so, why are there two threads?

I'll leave it for the moment in case there's a reason for it (or two different bumps) - otherwise I'll close one of them off to avoid confusion.
