Citroen C5 2.0 HDi 140 (2009) - Citroen C5 Problems - K D

First post here, please be gentle.

This will seem like a bit of a rant but please consider very carefully prior to purchasing a new Citroen. My 2009(MY) C5 has had three manufacturer recalls and returns for warranty repairs well into double figures. The car has done about 25000miles. Citroen UK after an initial Gesture of Goodwill when the vehicle was less than 1 year old have been nothing but obstructive and recent correspondence has seemed to be deliberately obtuse, not directly addresssing my ongoing issues. I see no resolution in sight and am resigning myself to an unreliable car with nothing but basic warranty backup. Thankfully as it is a contract hire vehicle I will be returning it next year. An experience nevr to be repeated.

Rant over!

Sorry to hear that. Specifically what has gone wrong with it?

HI

Manufacturers recalls for low speed running (ECU Update; download failed had to be returned), replacement of front windscreen wiper motor and rear tailgate strruts. warranty problems include front foglight replacement 3 times and modification and drying out, heated rear window elements failing, both fron window regulators replaced, ABS/ESP failure, Electronic 'dipstick' giving a false reading, air con pipes realigned to stop vibration, exhaust heat shields realigned to stop vibration. heater motor replaced once and is being replaced again as I speak, this time the car has been off the road for 4 working days so far (+ the weekend). Pretty much all of these problems have required at leat 2 visits; diagnosis and photographs then remedial work. All in all not a good advert for the car.

Wow! What a catalogue of silly errors. Didn't think Friday cars existed any more.

All the competent Citroen mechanics are fully occupied maintaining Sebastien Loeb's car and the other Citroen WRC entries.

That's got more faults than my 16 year old XM. That doesn't look good for Citroen.

Steve.

I don't really see the problem here. You've got a car with a handful of minor issues, all of which appear to have been dealt with via recalls and warranty work? Yes it's inconvienient to be going into the dealers all the time, yes it's annoying, and I can understand why you're fustrated.

However, this list of minor issues could happen with any car. Substitute Citroen for BMW or Mercedes or whatever and nobody would be surprised. If I had a pound for every person I'd heard say "I'm never buying one of X again..." Where X can be literally any manufacturer you can think of...

What we all need to really be saying is: dealers (of all makes) sort this process out to make it less painful for when things do go wrong. Collect the cars from owners homes outside of business hours, provide like-for-like courtesy cars, etc, etc.

This all costs money mind, so how much are we prepared to pay to get this level of service?
