Part-ex-ing car. Radio needs code. Problem or not? - philomeena

Have ordered a new car from a main dealer. Now waiting 6 weeks for delivery.
Part of the deal is a part-ex of my 7 year old car.

I've just removed the ipod adaptor from the factory fit stereo as it was something I'd bought seperately and installed.. and I can flog it for a few quid on eBay. Stupidly I disconnected the battery and now the radio is asking for a code which I don't have. It's missing from the manual & not marked anywhere on the actual headunit. Checked the 'get it off the internet' route with no joy. I can only get it from a dealer and he wants £25.

My question..

When I get to swap my car over for a shiny new one.. will the dealer be bothered that the radio now needs a code or not ?
He never actually saw the stereo working, so for all he knows it might have been saying 'CODE?' when he valued the car.

I don't want to look like I'm pulling a fast one, but I begrudge giving SEAT £25 for a number when I'm getting rid of the car.

And if the radio in your new car needs a code will you pay for the re-coding or expect the people you are buying off do so?

We just traded in our car and it said in the small print that the trade in price would be adjusted if things like radio code and locking wheelnuts weren't available.

I thought VAG cars at this age stored the radio code on the cars CPU. Have you left the the radio on for a while with the ignition on - it should automatically activate after a whle. On my 10year old octavia I was never given a code from new, when you turn on the ignition the radio says "code" for a short while and then turns on.

I've had VWs, Skodas and a Seat. The only coded stereo was in the Seat. The dealer is the only source if you do not have the code yourself. Do the decent thing!

It shouldn't be a problem. I part-exed my old Ford and I'd replaced the radio with a DAB, so when I swapped them back it didn't work without the code. The dealer just said he'd phone Ford!
