Citroen Xsara Picasso - Electrical nightmares - stuartl

A friend of mine has a 2003 Citroen Xsara Picasso with crazy electrics.

Wipers turn on and off at any time

Radio does not work. Indicators often flash once when headlights are switched on

Random warning messages on electronic display such as 'water low' when it is not.

Could some/most of these problems be a column stalk related fault?

ANY info at all would be very much appreciated, many thanks!

Believe it or not all of those faults could relate to the Body Control Module. Kind of one electronic brain that runs everything. Main dealer I reckon.

I would have a good look at all the earths in the engine bay first.

2nd a good indy with diag gear should be able to read the live data in the BSI and look at what is switching.

Steering cluster switches are problomatic but definatley start checking earths first ! if you check the wiper earth with an anoluoge volt meter to the neg of the battery and it should read zero when wipers are turned on. If it reads more than 03 of a volt the i would start looking for earth connections first.

If its a diesel check the wiring harness in the engine bay , they have been known to light up shall we say !
