Vauxhall Corsa C - Stereo issues - miller123

Hi,

I have a problem with my Corsa that I recently bought second hand. It has had a non-manufacturers radio installed and from taking it out it looks like quite a poor job has been done of installing it. The main problem is that the radio will not turn on or off with the ignition. It will turn on manually but that means you must remember every time you leave the car to switch it off.

From looking at the manual it appears that the red lead is one that controls this, so I tightened up the connection on it and wrapped it in insulation tape but it has made no difference.

Does anyone have any suggestion of what might be the problem and how to resolve it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jack

IIRC should be 2 wires + one is the memory + positive, the other is ignition switched, sounds like its been wired so it runs off of the memory wire assuming it doesnt need retuning everytime you turn it on,which means both thick and thin wires are connected together

thicker of the two wires is the ignition feed, but need to know make and model of radio to find circuit diagram to find feed/colour code of wire to radio

Thanks for replying.

The radio is a tevion 41426. You can download its user manual here www.fascin8.co.uk/f8/tevion/car-stereos/car-cdmp3-...6 and it has a diagram of the wires included.

I've looked it over myself but cannot work out what has gone wrong.

Thanks again,

Jack

And it doesn't need retuning everytime its turned on.

Ok,this is assuming the plug and socket to power suppy are intact ie no wires have been cut and reconnected... Yellow is the memory wire (keeps your radio in tune) where the connecter block is, can you tell me whether there are 2 wires connected to the same yellow terminal

I dont have the wiring code for your car otherwise I could tell you exactly what wire goes where

But I think the permanent live has been connected to both memory yellow and red cables together, you will need to find the ignition switched wire to connect seperately I am trying to find the diagram for it

The radio needs 2 power supplies to work correctly from the key.The original car wiring power leads are 2 red cables. One is slightly larger than the other. This is the permanent supply cable and is fed from fuse #12 @20 amp. This connects to the yellow cable of your radio. The smaller red cable is the key on supply fed from fuse #35 @5 amp. This connects to the red lead of the radio.hth

Thanks again for the help from both of you.

I will check whether the wires are connected to the yellow terminal asap and get back to you.

I've looked at the stereo and its wiring again and on closer inspection its in much more of a mess than I previously thought. I think what we're going to have to do is take it to a auto electrician. Thanks for your help anyway guys.
