This site is becoming impossible to view with lots of adverts getting on the way down the left hand side. They are completely useless because they dont display properly and are unclickable in any case.

In fact they are a real pain as they interfere with the drop down links. Anyone know how to get rid? I have pop up blocker activated but it makes no difference.

Can you not stick them on the right hand side so they dont interfere please

Sorted. Need to view site on a Mac and it works fine with all adverts on left and not annoying but on both my PC's in IE or Firefox for me (forget it)

I use Firefox without any problems (or adverts - ssshhh!).

Click on the Firefox icon, select 'options' in 'options' drop-down menu, select 'content', tick the 'Block popup windows' box.

Ah thank you. Firefox works beautifully and although I have not blocked the ads they are in the correct place and don't bother me at all. Internet Explorer will no longer be used.

Many thanks for your help it was driving me nuts.

My god! Those advert pop unders are worse than ever.

When I was a mod on here I had a different web url which prevented the ads from appearing and made browsing the site a whole lot faster.

Do the current mods have that luxury, or do they have to rough it with everyone else?

No such luck, DD! The really infuriating one is the one that inserts itself when you're in the middle of inputting your password, so that you have to start again.

Thanks for the reminder - I must ask if something can be done about this as it's counter-productive. I wouldn't buy on principle when an advert has been that annoying.

Been there, done that. Got nowhere. The owners of this site aren't interested in what the public think. Nor are they interested in what the moderators think either - one of the many reasons why I jumped ship. All they're interested in is bringing in as much money as they can.

btw, can't even quote your message with the "quote previous message" button. Evey time I press it, another pop under appears.

Far from it - they are trying to help and it may be dependent on which browser one is using. If I get more news I'll post it on here.

I'm rarely here these days, but no problems with pop-ups or unders using Safari/Mac.

Im now getting an ad for Life Insurance Quotes popping up EVERY time i click something on this site. Every single click. Back a page, open a thread etc

Try using Firefox with Adblock Plus as a free addon.

I dont use Firefox and this site has been perfectly fine until the last two days on IE so i dont see why i should need to change browser. Clearly someone who runs the site has b*****ed it somewhere.

looks fine on a mac (at least to me)!

Jamie (and anyone else who finds the problem intolerable) - please E-mail us at moderators@honestjohn.co.uk and I will forward the message on to our developer.

It is being looked at but I think it ssems to affect only some browsers.

Update from our publisher:

"Yes, unfortunately it is a browser speed issue. I wouldn't recommend using IE in any circumstances, I know it's the browser of choice but it is the worst of the bunch. Firefox or Safari are much better."

I think someone said that it works well on Google Chrome as well: I'll try it. At least it's free.

I think theres been a memory leak issue with Google Chrome recently. Caused hell for some people.

Surely your publisher should taylor their sites to work on the most popular browsers?

I've been having problems today using IE9 on this site. Carriage returns not working and three abortive attempts to post a reply in the Motoring Discussion forum. Using Firefox for this post and all ok.

Using latest IE and Norton Security I've never seen a popup...

What am I doing wrong? :-)

Adverts - jamie745

Ive found a way round the bug. Let the advert pop up and just leave it on the taskbar and no more come up.
