BMW 318i coupe (51 reg) - Losing power - loss in acceleration - BeemerCoupe

I am losing power when accelerating. No where near as quick as normal and really slow after gear changes especially at low revs. The car isnt 'jerky' just really slow. I have taken it to a garage who suggested an oil and filter change adding some engine clean to the oil. This has made no difference. From what they tell me there are 2 actuators, one on the inlet and the other on the exhaust. One is stuck, so they swapped them round to see if it was the actuator, but it was the same. Now they want to whip the engine out and take it apart to find the problem, this sounds like a lot of cash to me just to find out whats wrong and they may not find what it is. No codes coming up from the computer and no lights on the dash! Any suggestions?

Sounds like a possible exhaust blockage problem, have that possibility checked

no problem with the exhaust. took it to a specialist who took off the rocker cover, turns out the cam chain had jumped off and caused havoc. new cam chain etc and a fair wedge of cash later its sorted.

Another cam chain tale of sorrow. Good old specialist for finding the problem quickly though-and shame on the first one for making a cold reading.
