Skoda Octavia - Bacteria in aircon - baldy

I suspect that bacteria in the aircon system may be causing throat & chest infections. If I run the system on max heat with the aircon on through the face level vents for 15 minutes should this clear any bacteria.

Lots of bacteria are killed if you dry them out, so anything which dries your system down completely will help.

If there is a filter in the aircon system it may help to either take it out and dry it thoroughly in the sun for several hours or replace it.

If I had bacteria in my aircon the last thing I would be set the system hot and blow them into my face! I imagine you are talking about doing this, which sounds like a good idea BTW, when you are not in the car! I think a firm called Forte make some sort of aerosol dispenser which can be released in the car and will circulate thru the system to kill germs; again, not while one is in the car I imagine

Better and cheaper than this, go to the supermarket and buy a can of Dettol disinfectant spray. Start your engine and switch your air conditioning on. Switch the blower to the high position and the system to recirculate. Turn the heater control to cold. Place a towel on the passenger floorwell, place the can on it and using a matchstick jam the spray nozzle so that the can sprays by itself. Stand outside the car and close the doors. The Dettol spray will be drawn into the heater system and the bacteria will be destroyed leaving the car's heater system clean and fresh. Trust me, it works a treat.....

It may smell nice when done but unfortuneatly Dettol will not kill the bacteria in a AC unit.
