This could be fun. Has anyone here sold a car on and come across it again? Or seen it on Auto trader or something?

I did see my old Mk1 Mondeo 1.6 Saloon in an Asda car park about 18 months ago, it had 165k on it when i got rid of it over three years ago and its still in four shades of blue but seems to be doing well for whoever has it. It never went wrong, i'll give it that.

I sold my Citroen AX 1.5 diesel a number of years ago it was a good wee car for me but it had failed it's MOT on a few thing. It had did 120k plus miles, all by me. A couple of likely lads came and bought it, saying thery would fix the faults and put it on the road. I saw it about 1 year later parked in street, still looking fine, with a baby seat in back. I took a nosey through window and saw that the miles had managed to go back to 65k!

I saw my P reg Fiesta diesel a few times after trading it for a Focus. On one occasion I spoke to the new owner who had bought it within hours of me trading it in.

He had taken it from 74,000 to 120,000 with regular long trips. I then saw it on the forecourt at a local garage up at £900 and I saw it just once again, but by then it was looking worse for wear.

I know my last Audi was sold by Tetbury Audi and my recently traded X type went to a Jag dealer in Lancashire.

I saw my W-reg Astra on Autotrader a couple of months after I'd traded it in and most of my other private cars were seen once or twice after trading but never any of my company cars.

Once traded in a Polo with an engine fault. Saw it again a few months later on a Maxda forecourt - I assumed that the problem was so bad the new owner was looking to get rid of it again.

About 10 years later it went hurtling past me on a motorway looking very tatty but obviously fixed as it was doiing about 80 mph!

It amazes me how people still get away with clocking cars, especially on older tatty looking cars, surely even Stevie Wonder would spot a clocker a mile off.

I went to look at a Vauxhall Omega last year, hateful car in truth but you have to see em to know, claimed mileage of 47,000 on a 2000 reg, perfectly realistic but no history with it and the pedals looked like they've had considerable wear and the steering wheel and gearstick had gone smooth. I noted down some info that i could get and looked the car up online and found at its last MOT it had 103,550 odd on the clock, which to be honest, was alot more like it.

Most of my early cars were close to the end of their life, and checking on the DVLA site shows that none survive.

I gave our Mondeo estate to some friends 6 years ago, so still see it when they come to visit. Its always clean (I suspect they always wash it before they come to visit!).

My father's old austin westminster lingered at the scrapyard for 10 years after he took it in - the owner so loved the comfortable seats in it that he used it to eat his sandwiches each day!

I saw one of my cars about four years after I'd got rid of it-he was only the second owner and had bought it less than 24 hours after I'd traded it in!

They get away with it because most people value a car based on age/mileage rather than condition.

I will confess, going back over 20 years, to buying one of my 3-year old ex-company Vauxhall Cavaliers with 60k miles, reaching 90k a year later but then reducing it down to 52k for sale - I didn't expect a sale when three Vauxhall enthusiasts/anoraks came to see it who crawled all over and under the car, announced it "genuine", paid the car and drove off in it. It was though in excellent condition despite the mileage.

"Anybody ever seen their old car after selling it?"

Yes, frequently. I keep my cars for such a short period of time that there's a good chance that when I've traded-in something, it'll end up somewhere locally. I see my old V70 from time to time, spotted my old Astra on the M5 one day, and one of the local posties ended up with one of my old Mondeo's for a while.

It's always a weird feeling seeing a complete stranger driving "my" car mind...

Saw my Mazda - well it was not mine but was 1 digit difference S757 *** instead of S758*** - Same make/model, same colour etc.

I was walking to a Glasgow car park topick up the car to go home........ scary moment. From memory the 1st owner of both was a Midlands based company some 250 miles away.

My old 51 reg Rover 45 diesel is still inuse, I sold it 7 years ago, i see it occasionally and my Mgzt is still in use locally, my old punto was bought by a friend last year and i still see it regularly. But there again, I have always looked after my cars, so I'm not surprised to see them in use still.

The boss of a company I worked for in the mid 1970's had a 1968 Land Rover Series 2 that I used to drive occasionally. A few months ago I saw it for sale on Ebay - 35 years on!

Only once did I see my old car. Thought of leaving a note "my deepest sympathies".

More often than seeing my old car I have found my remote keys open other cars. Now what are the chances of that happening..?

I had an HB Viva when I was in Dorset in the army. I t was my first car and I had it a couple of years and went all over the country in it. One fine day the engine packed up and somehow got it to the dealers and they gave me a few quid for it and I got a Victor. The salesman said they would give my Viva to the apprentice as a project.

Over twenty years later i am at a reunion in Blandford and at the trafiic lights in font of me was me old Viva with some young lads in it. It was in great condition and I bet it is still going now........I dare not work out how much the cars I bought in the interim cost me.

In my younger days I once saw my dad's old Volvo 245 .... it had been a company car and it was changed after 3 years - we were stuck in traffic and saw it in another lane travelling in the same direction.

Also, (cheating here) my dad did sell the car I learnt to drive on to his sister for my cousin to drive; now it's spooky going back as a passenger to one's former own car being driven by someone else, even a close relative!

Last year I spotted the Passat GL TDi estate that I sold in 2001 at 120k - still looked in good nick.

Having sold my '66 Suzuki Super Six bike in 1972, it was the subject of a restoration article in Classic Bikes around 1994. 'Phoned the proud owner and filled him in with a few details of its chequered past... (we both reckoned, for different reasons, that it had been production raced in its youth)

Anybody ever seen their old car after selling it? - jamie745

I used to buy and sell cars for a living all the time, still do the odd bit but people arent buying as much as they were, and the interesting thing is if you spot a car you recently sold. As i did a few weeks ago, it was in a car park just beside me, Vectra it was, had a very distinctive number plate is how i remember it.

I found myself hoping they liked it and wouldnt come and strangle me. But i was on my guard in the supermarket, ready to hide behind a box or something if they appeared!

Yesterday I had reason to pass the Jag dealer and saw my X type on display - its looking cleaner than when I traded it and looking at the price tag they won't make much on it.

I have yet to see my old Ford Focus as I part-exed it a few towns away. I have seen my mum's old Daewoo Matiz (hateful little Lego car!). A horrible green X reg. It was rattling up the M6 at top whack! It would only ever go 75mph at best. What an awful vehicle.
