hi all,

im looking for a small cheap to run, safe car and have settled on the i10.

I saw through this site that brand new 1,2 actives are on offer at £7500 at the moment.

For about 6k i can pick up a 10 reg 1.2 comfort with under 10,000miles.

Is there that bigger difference in the engines, running etc to make it worth buying the new version?

Could I haggle a good price on a new 1.2 comfort with the active now being out?

Thanks for the help

I think the i10 is a cracking little car - I was charmed by a test drive and ordered one back in the scrappage scheme daze - but backed out due to the supply delay. I think Hyundai have modified the very latest 1.2 engines so the "new" one may be older stock. Don't know if it will make a big difference to you though.

Beware buying a 2ndhand i10 - as (like any small car at that point in its life) it will likely have been a loan /courtesy car lent out to anyone. So look carefully.

re "brand new 1,2 actives are on offer at £7500" they have been nationally advertised for 6999 and i have been in a few dealers recently and seen them stickered up at that price

We have just bought a second hand i10 1.2 (78bhp) Comfort Manual on a 10 plate with 9500 miles. We based this purchase upon the great reviews. So far it's a great car, good build, good standard features and handling for the price ... but ... fuel economy is disappointing. So far after 800 miles of careful open road driving we are getting 48mpg which is okay'ish but I cannot see getting past 50mpg let alone 58-60mpg published. Plenty of other owners getting far worse MPG especially in auto with 28mpg! Check http://fwd.channel5.com/cars/city-car/hyundai-i10 for other owners MPG woes.

Other issues to watch out for are clutch judder and faulty headlight levelling switch but these are apparently fixed with the latest new 1.2 2011 version or at least should be rectified by dealers through warranty.

Overall good, but I seriously question the published MPG figures.

We bought an i10 on scrappage. Decent car for the Mrs but I am 6'3 so it wasn't comfy. As a city car with some fast stuff its fine, but any journey longer than 40 minutes and it became unpleasant.

It gave me 44 MPG on my commute to work and the 200 BHP 2 litre turbo charged petrol engined car that replaced it is getting about 38 MPG on the same run. Our other car with a 2.2 litre diesel gets 48 MPG so I concur on the dissapointing MPG.

I would think about buying something slightly bigger and slighty less "built to a price" for the same money - so it would have to be a little older. The emphasis is on the I as we all have different needs.
