Ford Mondeo - Holding back - imayid

2004 diesel 130

Seems to accelerate ok through all gears but on motorway feels like its holding back/jerking when in 5th and 6th also chucking out black smoke has always smoked when accelerating but seemed to do it all the time on motorway.

Any clues??

We had something similar on our car - the only other problem we have had! It always happened at about 2500 revs mark.

The garage could not find out what was wrong and were convincing us that we needed a new fuel pump at some outrageous figure. When they inspected the car again they found that a restraining strap had gone. This had something to do with the battery area - sorry don't know the technical details. Well we had that fixed and all has seemed to be fine since - fingers crossed.

Check usual stuff first I guess - make sure it has been serviced recently, especially fuel filter.

Failing that, check the common faults - Check intercooler hose for leaks. Clean EGR or get it cleaned. Ilustrated instructions for those can be found at places like talkford.com .

Thanks people found split in pipe from EGR valve taped it as a trial and works fine so new one needed i spose.
