The radio on my 406 is as good as useless, it seems to have very little gain, in some places it picks up no stations at all and in others one or two, just occaisionally in a city it will recieve several. I have checked the aerial connection which appears OK. It makes no difference whether you tune it in the local or DX mode so I suspect a fault on the radio, unless anyone knows different?

Thanks. Peter

I have had this problem with my partner , when i had a look , i found that the connector , on the radio antenna cable was not working , i bought another connector from halfords nd when i fitted it , i now have the best radio reception i have ever had.

the part in question looks like a sort of right angled connector, the description on the receipt is : 131136 HAL AER ADP PLUG STD>ISO

as i said not sure if thiss is your problem, but it sounds like my problem and this is what sorted it.

Right, thanks for that, I checked the aerial end but not the set end, I was thinking of doing it but have not got round to it, but I will now. Certainly sounds feasible.

Tony,

If it does this when a traffic report comes in, this is correct operation if you have the TP function activated. If it does is at random, it sounds like a fault.

Turn off the traffic function (TP) to check.

Your vehicle also has steering column mounted remote controls for the audio. It's worth checking those for some malfunction.

Saloon versions of the 406 suffered water ingress to the remote changer (from leaking rear lamp clusters). All sorts of bizarre faults from that one...Not applicable to the Estates.

Best of luck.

Peter,

I presume you are complaining about FM reception? Try the AM performance. Can you get a good selection of stations on AM? If you can, your aerial is not at fault.

If AM is "dead" it could be the aerial or the set unfortunately. Futher fault finding will require subsituting one or the other...

For the record. The local/DX function on most car audio is purely seek sensitivity and will have no effect on reception once the station is found.

Thanks Derek for the quick reply.....can`t faualt the car in anyway, but when you buy a car its the only thing that you find out after checking all the relevant stuff, it will hold a channel or a CD for a certain length of time.....then it will go through FM channels as if its lost summat.....I`ll try the TP thing and let you know, but i dont get a traffic report anyway, it has got the steering mounted control, it works but would`nt know if it had any faults Tony!
