Reporting Someone for Driving with a Brain Injury - Jet Driver

Hi

I'm wondering if someone can advise me on the following matter, any help would be much appreciated.

Basically i know someone with a severe brain injury (lesions on the brain) ironically due to a car crash years ago. (No fault of their own)

Since then they've deteriorated health wise and started suffering with blackout and fits, they have to take extreme amounts of medication on a daily basis which can also cause bad side effects on top of this. I'm becoming increasingly concerned about this person as they will not accept that they can't drive anymore, even after being told by the doctor. This has lead them to lie to the doctor about continuing to drive. Obviously i can't ring their doctor due to confidentality reasons and i've been told they are the only persons allowed to report someone for driving with such illness. My main concern is that said person will blackout / have a fit at the wheel and end up killing an innocent by stander or road user, they really are unfit to be driving.

If anyone can advise me on what to do or has been through the same situation please please help. I want to do as much as i can to prevent someone's life being taken from them.

Taking away a persons Driving Licence is a very grave step because you are curtailing his independence.

Yet on the other hand you are aware of an accident waiting to happen with the blue touch paper possibly lit.

Fist step is to try and speak to relatives to get them on your side to get the subject to see reason and hand in his iicence,

If this does not work and you have no other ulterior motive than safety and have a genuine concern then you can report the matter to Medical section of DVLA who can set the necessary action into enquiring into the medical condition and ability to be safe on the road.

Hi thanks for taking the time to reply.

Obviously it's not something i've gone into lightly, i realise that driving is a part of their livelihood so it's a massive thing to take it away from them.

Unfortunately things have gone beyond that now and it's not just a case of poking my nose in where i shouldn't i'm genuinely concerned about their welfare and of others. If there was any other way around it i would be considering that route but from what can see there isn't. I have discussed with the persons family and they all agree it's just knowing who to contact as like i said i've been told that the doctor has to do it. I just can't believe that if you know someone that is putting peoples lives at risk and fully aware of the fact, that only the doc can do something about it. The relatives of the person has tried talking about it but this person just refuses to accept that they can no longer drive. It's not a very nice situation really as their health will never improve only decline which is why i'm trying to do something before it's too late.

Thanks very much for your advice
