I assume the dash mount one, not the changer in the boot? It's been some time since I have been involved with the repair of these, but from memory it's a laser pick up fault. Quite simply, the resonance from the engine (a diesel?) is just enough to upset the worn out pick-up. Cleaning the laser lens might help, but given the age that's unlikely to provide a long term fix.
