Just reading about a "police operation" involving dvla and vosa, which saw over 400 vehicles stopped in a couple of weeks here in west wales and 48 no insurance, 70 no licence, 10 driving under the influence of alcohol and some with no mot, that's more than 25% of cars stopped, Just wondering how many were crushed after 14 days when fines/ved not paid or insurance documents or MOT not produced. That's a lot of cars!

As one of those poor people who need a car and pay my insurance/ved/mot etc and keep my car roadworthy, i don't feel sorry for those losing there cars, and apparently there were some 3-4 year old cars in the mix, not exactly old bangers!

I got stuck in a traffic jam where one of these checks was taking place a year ago.

The headline figure of how many vehicles were being illegally used was all well and good, being nearly 25% as in your mention - but they were being very selective in who they stopped. There were a number of "spotters" selecting cars to be pulled in.

I'm not disagreeing with this selection, but it makes the percentage figures quoted a bit (well a lot) exagerated. Now if they quoted as a pecentage of those passing the checkpoint then......

There again - if it was an ANPR excercise as your title would suggest, then they should be close to 100% offenders stopped.

Some are stopped for ANPR,but others are spotted for no seat belt, mobile phone, eating and generally unsafe vehicles/driving.
