Ok, like the title says, I have a '93 Golf III with the 1.8L 90HP "ABS" engine, Single Point Injection. I purchased for next to nothing, so I expected it to have problems.
Anyway, when cold, the car is difficult to start, and does not like to stay running. Once running, it is running so rich that it's pouring smoke out of the tailpipe. Obviously it's missing terribly as well, from the spark plugs being covered in soot from running so rich.
So far I've only replaced the Lambda, to no avail. I'm not new to VW, but I am new to the MKIII, so fuel injection systems (besides Bosch CIS and Digifant II) are new to me.
Could someone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to start troubleshooting? Before I start guessing, and replacing parts that don't need it.
Also, if you know where I can find some informaiton about this injection system (like what it's called), I'd be grateful, since both my wife and I drive Golf IIIs with SPI injection. (Although hers it's the small-block 1.6L 75HP "ABU" engine.)
Thanks in advance.
