renault master or ford transit - fordy 1

hi

can anyone give me any ideas as to buy a master or transit, pros and cons please

renault master or ford transit - Vitesse6

Don't know about the Renault, but I rented an 02 plate transit last weekend, 111,000 miles on it, it drove superbly, everything worked, pulled well even when loaded and did all I asked of it. I would estimate fuel consumption was around 30 mpg.

Hi there,

We rent out vans - so they get a fair bit of abuse.

We have 5 masters 55-07 plates, miles 100k - 170k. They have a bad reputation on gearboxes, but we've only ever had one go, although the 170k one is getting noisy now. The front suspension bushes, upper and lower seem to be a weak point and regularly need done at MOT time. The engines seem good, powerful and reliable, never had any probs with them.

We have one transit 55 plate, 2.4TDI, rear wheel drive, 100k miles. We might have been unlucky, but in the 10 months we've had it, it has needed new fuel pump, timing chain and tensioner, vacuum pump, and 2 recon gearboxes!

So the Master gets my vote, but no doubt the transit will have more fans.

Iain.
