any - white lithium grease...good on rubber - starfield

Hi All,

Is white lithium grease any good on rubber? I have read somewhere that it may damage rubber. I just want to confirm this.

Silicone grease is safe on rubber and actually helps to keep it soft. Any other grease with a mineral oil base will degrade natural rubber.

"White lithium grease" is a bit of a general term - unless you know its composition I would advise keeping it away from natural rubber. Obviously, polymer substitutes for rubber such as neoprene are oil resistant - CV joint boots are well coated in mineral grease on the inside.

I used silicone grease on my window rubbers to try and ease some very stiff winders as it seemed the rubber hardened up in the Winter and made them stiff. It seemed to work initially, however an invisible film has been spread onto the glass causing excessive water beading, making the glass almost opaque if I forget to clear it. Blowed if I can remove it.

Mr Sheen is also good on rubber, especially window glides and door rubbers.
