honda deauville 650 - honda deauville restarting after fuel empty help - Alakazam

Hi I am a novice to understanding bikes with any kind of electronics fuel pumps etc, I find myself having bought a Deauville 650 as a stop-gap that does not want to re-start, having refuled following running to empty. Can anybody advise me please. Is there anything I need to do? eg prime the fuel pump etc. if so how etc. I do not have a workshop manual.
though I am waiting for one to arrive. in the mean time I have a bike 3 miles away that I visit every day with encouragement and recharged batteries etc. but the patient does not seem to want to get better. Thanks

Al.

I have a 1994 revere, there is no special procedure for starting
from empty

Try a few obvious things

1. Is the fuel tap turned on

2 The fuel pump should fill the float bowls of each carb once activated
It could take 20/30 seconds to draw the fuel through

3. Can you see the fuel flowing from the Fuel Pump to the carbs
( on mine the fuel line is transparent and the fuel can be seen )

4. Check the carbs have fuel in the float bowl, you can do this easily
each carb has a drain off point and screw, when you open the screw
fuel should trickle out of the float bowl

5. On mine the fuel pump can be felt pulsing or clicking, when in use
pop off the left side panel and feel it when you use the electric starter

If I think of anything else I,ll be back, please let me know what the cause is
when you find it

You have may have sucked some muck into the carbs or their is an air lock in fuel lines. Try putting a small amount of petrol into the float bowl, start the bike and let that suck the fuel through. Alternatively it may be a blocked jet from muck which is a simple carb strip and then blow through the jet.
