Hi all,

After some advice...

The fuel pump on my 406 packed in about two weeks ago, I replaced it and it worked fine for about 3 days.

It the stopped working while travelling at constant speed down an A road.

The engine turns, but there is no start. I think there is no fuel in the engine. When I listen to the pump, it sounds as if it is working.

Any ideas? What can I check or try?

I can't afford to take it to a garage, so I need to try all I can myself.

Any help would be great,

It would help to know what engine you have, if it's a 1.9 or 2.1 shouldn't be to difficult but if its an Hdi - not so easy.

If its an HDI its 2.0 or very unusual a 2.2

If it worked when you changed the pump and it does not now then either the pump has gone again or something associated with it has come adfift.Was it a new pump or a secondhand one?

It's a 2.0 HDi, sorry should have thought to put that!

It was a second hand pump from a scrap yard. I couldn't afford a new one!

Could it be the fuel filter? It's the only thing cheap enough and easy enough for me to try right?

Try disconnecting the fuel pipe between the filter & engine. You should get a good flow of fuel for a couple of seconds immediately after turning on the ignition.

If that is ok would suggest you will need to get the fault codes read to know where to go from there.

There are 2 fuel pumps..I believe. Low and high ppressure ones...

Which did you replace?
