Just bought a1999 ford focus which is a fine car a part from one problem when I come to a stop the revs shut up to 2000rpm then comes down to 1300rpm then finally 900rpm the problem seems worse when I brake could it be a vacuum leak? I've cleaned the iacv which seemed to make matters slightly worse I can't hear any hissing from the manifold area may check the tps when it's a bit dryer cheers

It should go 1300 to 900, thats the IACV doing its job properly. With the car sat idling what happens to the revs if you pump the brake pedal? If theres a fault with that side of it then doing that will show it up. If it remains normal then I would think the fact it does it when braking is just a coincidence for something else happening at the same time.

Every time i come to a stopthe revs rise 2000rpm if I just press the clutch in the revs rise 1300rpm even when engine warm up if I press the brake the revs sometimes well most of the time shoots up to 2000rpm but after a couple of seconds comes back down to 900 rpm. When I pump the brake pedal at idle there's no change the revs stay at aprox 900 rpm, I've cleaned the idle air control valve with carb cleaner and to be honest it didn't look coked up. I've also been told it could be the tps sensor I've disconnected it and it's slightly better ( revs going to around 1300 when braking) I've just found a website which tells you how to check with a mutimeter (rac website) so will check that when it stops raining

FIXED while checking the tps I notice a slight hissing noise so I checked all the vacuum pipes at the back of the throttle body and found the one that's goes to the fuel pressure regulater split so I tried to repair it which seem to be a good repair if I say so! So I put it back on and took the car for a spin and it seemed slightly better but it was still revin at1300 rpm before going down to normal idle speed. So I'll pulled the car back on to check again and found the breather pipe at the bottom off the inlet manifold had collapse on itself so I took it off and manage to find a piece of copper pipe with a bit wd40 and bit of brute strengh I managed to get the copper pipe inside the rubber pipe then refitted everything again took for another spin and hay presto, thanks

i have the same problem with my 1.6 zetec but if i press the brake a few times it revs up can anyone help me
