Vegetable oil fuel - why no new cars utilising? - Man without a plan

Hi folks,

Was thinking today, if it is possible to run a car on vegetable oil (with or without also having separate diesel tank), why is no one producing / selling new cars that can do this?

I mean its environmentally friendly and sustainable.... yet the only way to do it at the moment is a) risk it on cars by mixing it with diesel in the same tank, or b) get a second tank and a specialised system...

Seems strange that the government is subsidising electric cars which aren't as environmentally friendly and aren't sustainable (unless green sources) and just aren't as convenient at the moment for refuelling.

I'm sure there is a good reason for all of the above so please enlighten me. :-)

Its neither friendly nor sustainable it would require 50% of all world food production land to make enough fuel for 20% of the worlds cars never mind the commercial users even putting a few % into diesel is causing problems with food crops being ripped out plus virgin forest destroyed to produce cash crops. If you thought you had the answer to our energy problems then forget it.

Wheat, hay, etc., are at record prices. Farmers can get more money selling it as food.

the Fins are using the waste products from the Nestle`s factory and this year will have a new plant on line in Rotterdam. Harlingen the fish port in Holland have now there plant on line using fish waste. In belgium they have a process to turn home waste into a form of GTL. We have here in the very North of Holland a refinery built to these ends but as it cannot compete against the price of crude oil pressure from idiot bankers, only after the quick buck,it is closed down and will be destroyed. How B>>>>>> stupid can you be!!!!!!

Its reckoned that hydrogen is the future, the excuse is storing the stuff .

The dutch where lucky when gas was found in the province of Groningen a lot of the benefits trickled to the population. When it was found of the UK coast the opposite happened it went to the goverment under M Thatcher.

We are lucky at the moment Siemens from Germany is building massive windmills in Immingham and Hull and hopefully the creation of a lot of jobs.I keep my fingers crossed for the younger generation here to have a better future and jobs.

unfortunately the west proffited from the gas now they want to fill the empty gas fields up with CO2. As for Windmills it was pointed out to me in Antwerpen that atom station Doel produces 2000 Mg watt of power also the new BASF power station running on its own waste products can supply all the needs for 50% of Antwerp`s power. On the north edge of the Habour in Holland are the windmill`s,made in Denmark,1 Mg watt each 50% of the time broken down. The Belg say`s where are you going to build 2300 of they and how do you think you are going to keep them running?. What a cronic waste of money. That what happens when you let school teachers run your country.

Unfortuneatly wind turbines produce very little and at enormous cost without the massive subsidy they receive for building and running these monsters there would not be one in Europe,

you are right and when the government add a crippling extra super energy tax on top of the standard energy bill to pay for there folly its a bit painfull. If only they spent the money on waste gas plants and water.
