On lifting off throttle engine seems to mis-fire .

With electronically controlled injection-yes. You can hear the ubiquitous diesel clatter return as the revs fall close to 1000. More to the point, a warm diesel engine can't really misfire like a petrol. I'm intrigued.

2.0d, 2005, 51,000 miles. Engine smooth when accelerating but when cruising at any speed range appears to falter as you ease back. I have tried several different fuels and Wynnes injector cleaner but to no avail.

I've no personal experience of these failing in diseasels though.

couple of things, one is have you tried driving with the air-con off ? its possible the pump is cycling and you can feel it switching ?

It could be an EGR valve starting to leak, injector coding drifting or the wiring to the air flow meter is loose or broken

Many thanks for your suggestions. The symptoms do seem like those indicated by a failing EGR valve. I will get a garage to look at this for me.

When you remove the EGR valve for cleaning it is imperative you also clean the maifold as well also a good time to check the glow plugs..
