Hi all.
3 months ago I purchased a 2.2 dCi Tino (136bhp model) for commuting to work, and have been very disappointed with the fuel economy I am getting. Nissan's combined mpg is 44mpg, I am averaging just 37mpg.
My journey should be very favourable for achieving good figures.....my previous car, a 1997 Peugeot 406 1.8lx petrol averaged 37 mpg over the exact same journey, surely my 50,000 mile 5 year old Nissan should be bettering the ancient old petrol motor?
It is a 23 mile each way commute, A roads and the New Forest (40mph limit), I don't exceed the speed limit, I don't rev hard through the gears (in fact I change up at 2000 rpm), yet still, it resolutely refuses to give a better average than 37mpg. I have checked tyre pressures and the air filter cleanliness, the car has FSH and was only serviced 3000 miles ago.
The fuel computer says 37mpg, and filling the tank and working it out the old fasioned way only confirms the computer is accurate!
Even if I put the car in 6th at 60mph on the dual carriageway, and reset the computer it refuses to indicate a better average than 39mpg. Surely I should be seeing better figures than this? Others in owner reviews seem to regularly quote high 40's, what am I doing wrong, or what may be the cause of such (in my opinion) poor economy? Has this 2.2 chain cam engine any known foibles which may be giving me my problems.
In general running the engine feels strong, and certainly doesn't appear lacking in power or torque and certainly isn't smoking excessively or anything obvious like that.
My next move was to try some Redex injector cleaner when I next fill up, as a last hope....
Any advice on what to check gratefully received.
