BMW X3 2.0ltr diesel - low fuel - iant01

help!!

I ran my fuel tank low over the weekend( 10mls remaining) and now my enginge is is running terrible.

In neutral and at high revs it sounds like a tank and at idle if feels like it is going to stall.

Could this be just that i have pulled dirty fuel / water through?

Is this something that could clear itself? or will it have to go into the garage?

It does sound to me that the fuel filter has become partially blocked from the contamination in the tank. I'm surprised this happened while still showing the range figure as there is a small reserve on BMWs after you have reached 0 miles, but there must have been a reasonable amount of contamination. It will probably need a replacement fuel filter plus I would be tempted to have the fuel tank completely cleaned out to remove anything that remains. It's easier to do this when the tank is almost empty.

Thanks for your comments and advice. I thought I had seriousley broken my car!!!

A trip to the garage is on the cards now.
