Ford Mondeo 51 plate - handbrake cable - Westy1

I have the opposite problem with my hanbrake cable that people have written about on the forum. I have replaced the two rear calipers no problem, when i come to reconnect the handbrake cable it appears too short. is there some sort of automatic tensioner that reacted to me releasing the cables to remove the old calipers. if so, how I do release the cable to fit....... Thanks

This car has probably got the original non modified handbrake lever where the 2 cables are spring loaded from a cross bar at the front. You need to pull the cables back ,from caliper end, to overcome the spring load.Use heavy duty pliers. You may find it easier to remove the yoke that attaches to the caliper handbrake mechanism(the one with the countersunk hex bolt)to enable the cable nipple to engage more easily. Also give the lever on the caliper some manoevering to ease assembly.Bit of a fiddle,I have just done mine,1 o/s caliper and 2 cables. The handbrake is still rubbish.Later cars have a modified system.hth
