Toyota Carina E 2.0i - Oil on spark plug (top thread) - Gregory II

On changing the plugs on my Carina E, I found that there was some oil on the top of the plug. There is no oil on the tip however, where it seems to be burning nicely.

Can someone suggest as to what might be causing this? It seems to be only the very top thread.

With this problem, I am thinking along the lines that the mechanic might have put some oil on the top thread to aid removal on changing the plugs. I am wondering what else may be causing this problem as I am hoping it might not be something more serious perhaps? Greg

Had the same problem on my MK1 MX5. turned out to be the rocker box gasket dripping oil in to the spark plug wells.
