Golf Mark iv 1999, Automatic - Golf Mark iv 1999 alarm problem - aston1990

The remote central locking has stopped working, and you have to use the key to unlock the car. So far, not too bad. However as soon as you go to turn the car on the alarm goes off! I have checked all the fuses and they are all fine. Any advice?

The alarm system can only be turned off straight away by the remote fob.Putting the key into ignition position after the door is opened should silence the alarm if using the key in door barrel. You need to get the remote working,it may have lost its synchronisation or become faulty.Other alternative is to disconnect the alarm sounder located under panel by wipers. The immobiliser system will remain intact.hth

Sorry, obvious question. Have you tried changing the battery in the remote fob/key ?

Yep, have tried changing the battery. Tried re-syncing the key as well, but may not have done it correctly - the manual is in German, i tried my best! any idea how to re-sync?

You need 2 keys to re-sync the system.Key 1 in steering lock ignition on.Close all doors.Put key to be re-synced in drivers door and turn fully to lock position. Then press one of the remote buttons on the key.hth
