VW Golf Mk4 - ECU - Stuey123

My son has a Golf Mk 4 which may have ECU problems. Engine management light comes on, and the revs are cut down. Diagnostics didn't reveal anything, and it seems OK again now. If it is the ECU, is it feasible to get secondhand ones, as I understand they're expensive? Any other ideas>

I belive you can get these repaired/ exchanged. Do an internet google search.

I doubt if it is the ECU itself - usually it either works or it doesent.

What age is the car and what engine has it got?
