The poxy autochoke on a Golf Mk2... what am I supposed to do??!?

The Pierburg carb has been playing up but there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

I took my car to a German auto specialist and they seem to have diagnosed the problem thus:

Dodgy dizzy cap, HT leads and rotor arm. Replace rocker cover gasket. Replace choke unit. Clean out inlet manifold.

Sounds fair enough - the inlet manifold is preventing sufficient coolant circulating round the carb.

What wasn't fair enough was the price! 200 quid for parts plus four hours labour (at 55 quid an hour). Plus obligatory VAT. I've done my own research on the parts and know that they were marking up them up by 100% - I am just interested whether that seemed to be a fair estimate of the labour involved.

Anyhoo, the dismantling and cleaning of the carb seems to have stopped it roaring from cold (the main thing that was annoying me) and the car is running okay (touch wood).

I'm going to do all the other stuff myself - dizzy cap, rocker cover gasket etc. But the inlet manifold looks a bit tougher - what with all those vacuum hoses I'm loathed to remove the carb myself. Oh for a Tune Up in SW London (unless Auto Tune Up are part of the same group?)
