Loading Bay on Roadway - Ben 10

Hi Lucy,

What is the minimum sized vehicle that can park in a marked loading only bay on the road ?

And if this bay is not being used, can I park a car in it and buy goods from the premises it appertains to?

The size and type of vehicle isnt really relevant. The link below should explain everything

As to the second part of your question - the suggestion seems to be that you could get away with it, but honestly that is not the purpose of the loading bay.

Some authorities have put up "vans only" loading signs. These could probably be challenged. The main argument is not usually on the size of the vehicle but whether loading is actively taking place.

Hmmm....interesting reading that document.

Collecting or loading?

Can't comment on how it works today but in days gone by, when Traffic Wardens were truly there to ensure things worked as they should, the rule was that buying and paying for the goods was not part of the 'loading' exemption and that was fair.

However, ticketing horror stories aside, in our town you often see vehicles parked all day in 'loading' bays as the local enforcement officer/s have too greater area to cover and therefore you very rarely see one!

Thats what I thought. Yesterday I received a PCN from a council for stopping in a loading bay.

I went into the suppliers it was outside of and purchased goods then drove off. All of about 5 minutes. I was pictured on a cctv camera which showed a still photo of my car in the bay and then a close up still of my number plate.

So don't think you will get caught by a warden. Big brother is watching and writing out the penalty notice as you drive away.
