My Mk6 golf TSi is emitting White smoke from the exhaust when engine is up to temp. Been back to dealers no fault found by plugging in diagnostics, emissions test ok,they told me it was water vapour due to cold air passing over catalytic converter.every time I pull away in traffic I can see smoke and I am worried only done 10k,what to do next as no fluids being lost!

Moved to Technical, where you should get some help.

My Golf 1.4TSI does this too - I'm pretty sure it's just the combination of water vapour and the cold weather we've had making it more visible. After all, burning fuel creates water vapour and carbon dioxide (amongst other things).

My previous Golf had a concealed exhaust pipe which pointed downwards a little, and didn't have this 'problem'.

My car before that - a Ford Focus - also produced visible water vapour and condensed on the rear window in cold weather, which necessitated the use of the rear wiper to see out of the back!

Hope this helps,

Tim

I pass lots of petrol cars emitting white vapour in town. You need to warm the exhaust system above 100C or thereabouts to stop water condenssing inside it. In this weather that means 40mph plus when warm.

As I drive a diesel, not an issue:-)

I have the Mk6 Golf 1.4 TSi (122bhp) DSG purchased @ 5 months ago and I have also noticed quite a lot of white smoke from the exhaust, probably due to the water vapour, but as mentioned it still emits smoke when fully warmed up, would be interested to know if there are other VW Mk6 drivers experiencing similar smoke!!

Yo

I've just purchased a 2009 Golf GT Tsi 1.4 DSG and it is emitting the same white smoke even when the engine has reached peek temp! Anyone any closer to finding out the problem if there is a problem haha.
