Nissan Terrano II - central locking - Brendy

Durning the cold spell my 2004 7 seater Terrano central locking started to play up. Once i turned on the igination the doors all locked. I manually opened them and that was fine. On one occasion i got out of the car to put the trailer on (engine still running) and when i tried to get back in the doors were locked with key in. I used the spare key to open, and i have to carry it around with me yet to i find out what the problem is. Any ideas?
