ford focus 2.0 tdci 2005 - engine fan running - dh1983

I never noticed until a friend pointed out when i turn off the engine off i heard a fan running for a second

now i notice that after about 20seconds of starting the car a fan comes on and it appears to stay on until i turn the engine off.

is this normal for this 2.0 tdci engine

ive tried it with and without the air con on, I have realised that the temp gauge doesnt sit in the middle either, more like 11 oclock position, dont know if that helps?
