Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - 1.7 DTi , oil level rises - 1litregolfeater

I do realise that this is probably failing oil rings allowing diesel oil into the sump.

What can I do to alleviate this. Isuzu engine has only done 80000 miles but lots of stop n start.

I put full synth 5-40 in, would it be any better running mineral oil?

I don't think it will be rings as if there shouldn't be any neat diesel in the combustion chambers if its burning properly, could be a faulty injector dribbling fuel, although this would normally cause knocking. I wonder if there is a leak somwhere between the fuel system and the sump.

I think it might be knocking more than normal, this is the only diesel I've had experience of, but it does seem noisy. Like you can hear every explosion in a pinking sort of way but louder. Might be only a quarter of them but it's hard to count.

It's always been like this since I bought it and I just thought that's what they sound like. We've put 40000 on it and it runs great. I think I shall have to measure the mpg and judge it from that. Replacing a leaky injector or taking it to a diesel specialist for testing sounds a lot more expensive than more frequent oil changes.

I did put some diesel redex in a while back that I had no further use for, in a spirit of optimism, so I'll stick the rest in and see if that helps.

Thanks for your advice Peter N

is this the vauxhall engine or is it the jap izuzu engine if its the later then you possibly have an leak back issue the injectors are join together inside the rocker cover by a rail and then leads out of the head, the leak of rail is held down by banjo bolts and it has copper washers, these due to exspansion and contraction end up weaping this then dilutes the engine oil, regards TB
