Volkswagen Beetle 2000 - how do you change a number plate bulb - VW-Beetlelove

The bulbs are either end of the rear number plate, the rear near side bulb is out. how do you get the bulb out to change the number plate bulb. is it from inside the boot or are you suppose to pull the whole unit out, or is it under the spoiler. any help will be much appreciated. thanks.
