VW Golf IV - Brake lights come on over night - penny81

The brake lights on my Golf IV have started coming on over night. Any ideas what could be causing his?

Strange things afoot in these Arctic conditions and I don`t mean Yeti.After almost having to crow-bar the car doors open this morning I found the ice-scraper welded frozen to the passenger floor mat.Maybe a bit of condensation got into your switch but more likely it`s just failed,same happened to me on one of the Golfs I owned.Link below should help.
