ford focus v nissan micra - what type of car is better on snow? - starfield

I have got a ford focus 1.8L petrol manual (mk2). My wife has got a 1L nissan micra (bubble shape). Surprisingly enough, the micra outperforms the focus by far on ice. both have standard tyres as everything else.

Why is that? Why is the micra better on icy road as compared to the focus?

Could it be the weight - Ford is about 400Kg heavier than the Nissan.

Narrow tyres seem to be a lot better in such conditions.

I found no difference in our new Focus ,Honda Jazz was previous car.

The plus point with the Focus is theres is a extra 400kg.You have a bit more protection in the Focus if you are involved in a shunt.I would let my wife drive the Focus in this weather.

Where's Nowheels when you want her she'd love that, still hopefully another like minded lady driver will be along soon to defend their patch...:-)

It's down to the tyres as usual, when i've collected rows of identical cars from snow covered compounds those fitted with wide low profile summer slicks will not budge where otherwise identical cars with sensible tyres get about with ease.

Try feeling the treads on the two cars with your finger nails, i bet the Focus treads feel like hard plastic and the Micra's feel much softer.
