Combo Van /06 / 1.3D - Oil Gushing From Oil Filter Cap after Oil Change w - CSAR

Hi To All
Changed the oil twice before in my 06 / 1.3 diesel Combo Van and all went well.
This time I started it up and the 2.5 liters gushed out in like 5 sec. I immediately shut

down and thought I had not tighten the plastic oil filter cover, I kicked myself. :eh

So bought some more oil and I just started the van for 1 sec. and about a liter came out.

Right where the plastic cap meets the metal oil filter housing.

So far I think ...
1.) "O" ring in wrong notch
2.) Plastic Cap needs some mysterious positioning alignment
3.) The plastic guard rail that the top spring sets into needs replacing, even though Im

sure I seated the top spring to the guard rail flush.

For a start you need a new O ring.

Just a thought you have drained the old oil out.?

smear coat of grease around the seal before you fit the filter, sometimes they pop out as you tighten the housing.

The drain arrow simply shows where the hole is above the threads / under the seal ring. This is useful to drain some oil out into a little pot, before removing the filter. On yours though, as the filter looks about vertical, not much help. The o-ring is correct at the top.I am not clear where the plastic disc fits in picture two? I have strangely never worked on the later Vauxhalls, (that's what it is isn't it?). I have done filters of this type on many PSA and MB types, and you just firmly press the element into place on the lid and screw in. No loose parts. The fitting torque, is probably moulded into the lid, and is usually 25Nm. Over tightening is a real no no. Even if you have to buy another filter to get one, that o-ring is going to have to be replaced.

I did go today and get a new filter which was the only way to get the O ring. And bought a 32mm socket for the plastic bolt on top of the housing. I asked the service manager at Opel what notch the O ring belonged in and to my amazement he knew and told me. I feel 100% confident that I will have the van running Sun.
Thanks again ...jack
