Thanks to everyone for their opinions. Chevrolet in their handbook specify the oil should be 5w40 or 0w40. If any of us choose to ignore the manufacturers specifications regarding servicing then we can't expect the said manufacturer to honour the warranty. The mechanic filled with 10w40. Certainly short term it would do no harm, but as I previously wrote, The garage admitted it was not the correct oil, and have refunded me and apologised. (I also appreciate that they did not dispute the matter but acted speedily!) As I also posted, it has now been filled with the correct grade of oil, that I have used Castrol Edge is purely my choice. I add also that I am satisfied with the car it is comfortable and I have driven 4000 miles in 2 months getting good economy. It is therefore in my interest to maintain the car properly.
And to all those people who didn't change the brake fluid at the recommended intervals on their vw's audi's and seat's, did Vag pay up for the faulty brake master cylinders?
no! If you buy a car, get it maintained by a main dealer while it is under warranty,
Finally, I am sure that Honest John would firmly recommend using the correct spec oils and has advised many many people about oil changes.
Best wishes all, and Happy Motoring
