Peugeot 307 SW - Starting problem - philiprobo

I have an intermittent fault with my 2005 307. My key stopped working after a new battery was put in (could not unlock/lock the car but started fine)so had to get a new key made from Peugeot. After this the car sometimes would not start, everything appears normal but then nothing happens when I turn the key. This has been going on for six months and the problem occurs about twice a month, usually when my wife is stranded somewhere. I have taken the car back to Peugeot who have run a diagnostic and the want me to spend Euros (i live in France) 850 for a new battery (even though I have already just done this) and an Vanne EGA (some sort of valve?), I don't believe they have found the problem as it is so intermittent and I will be wasting my money.

Anyone else had a problem like this and found a solution?? Thanks

philiprobo,

did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? Did a new battery remedy anything? It sounds very much like one i am suffering with a 307SW.

We just bought the car - and as far as i know, keys haven't been replaced any time recently - but in 2 months we have had 5 or 6 instances of the car refusing to start. No turnover at all, just dead. Infuriatingly, it seems to happen at random - i cannot see a pattern.

Would be very interested to hear back from you.

My Peugeot 206 had a problem where I would turn on the ignition and the warning lights would come on but I when I turned the key further to engage the starter all the electrics went dead. I thought it was a loose battery terminal but all these were secure. However, while the +ve lead was tight on its terminal, the terminal itself was loose on the battery. The terminal coming out of the battery looks a like a large spade connector and the dome shamed terminal (that the lead connects to) fits like a cap over this, in my case not very securely. I wedged a small washer in the gap between these two and hammered it home. No problems since.
