Comments please.

I hasten to add it is the OTHER drivers I am talking about

It does not require the same mental effort as having a conversation and is no more dangerous, although a lot less hygenic, than changing gear or adjusting controls one handed.

It all depends what you do with it afterwards .....

I suppose it depends on whether the nose in question starts to argue with you, starts to try and engage you in things other than your driving while completly ignorant of your situation and so on ...

However being as your nose will have virtually the same vibility and awareness as the head to which it is attached, I would say no, picking your own nose while driving is not AS bad as phoning.

Picking you nose and flick the bogy out the window. ;)

I think it's disgusting to do in full view of other drivers. Do it in private. If I catch someone next to me in traffic "doing it" I always mime a "add some salt and pepper with that". Amuses the kids every time.

People don't seem to get embarrassed anymore, about anything.

Many moons ago at work a group of us were looking out the window at the traffic queue outside. There was a stunning looking girl on her own, stationary, who hadn't clocked us looking at her. She stuffed her finger up her nose, had a dig around, then removed the feast on the end of a finger. She looked at it, had a secret glance in the rear view mirror, then proceeded to stick the meal into her mouth.

We fell about. It was a true stomach churner. The combination of a looker and her fertive actions made our day. If only she had seen us looking.

Never understood the disgust surrounding the "... and ate it" part of that (admittedly not very pleasant) habit.

Surely once the thing is on your finger it is a damned sight more hygenic to swallow it rather than to flick it elsewhere?

Got to be done at the end of the day (handkerchiefs simply don't get rid of those bits that build up at the base of the nostril), and perhaps the girl (reasonably) thought she was indeed in a private space.

Perhaps in the grand order of things your letching at some woman might be seen as just as bad?

If someone picks their nose while driving, it would only be for a few seconds. If they use a hand-held mobile while driving, it's often for a prolonged period as some drivers use their time behind the wheel to make their calls.

It was the sheer number of drivers using mobiles, many doing so frequently and for prolonged periods, that led to the legislation. If you add up the total person-hours of people picking their noses while driving it would be a lot less that the person-hours of people using mobiles while driving, even today, when it's illegal.

"Surely once the thing is on your finger it is a damned sight more hygenic to swallow it rather than to flick it elsewhere?"

Just wait until the time is right. It isn't a life or death situation. It IS a gross thing to do in view of others. And a GREAT example for kids to witness.

"and perhaps the girl (reasonably) thought she was indeed in a private space."

A private place is not a car. The glazing confirms that.

"your letching at some woman might be seen as just as bad?"

Your phrase not mine. Who said we were letching. We happened to see someone do something we thought she wouldn't be doing publicly. It could have been a nun or a truck driver. The inident was noted as we were surprised anyone would be that bold to do it stationary and in full view of anyone who happened to be looking.
