hyundai !30 - speedo fault - pedrogonzalez

I,ve just covered approx 3000 miles in my June 2010 reg car and have only today discovered the mystery behind why my speedo varies dramatically and drops to zero intermittently whilst driving. The fault has been discovered by the Hyundai dealer to be to do with the connection of the hands free Parrot Blue tooth phone kit - so whenever my phone is in use the speedo goes to zero. Question? would this be considered in my defence if I was caught speeding whilst the phone was in use and I could not read my exact speed.?

A defective speedo does not afford you a defence. The offence is to be speeding - not of not knowing that you were.

In the circumstances you outline it could be used as a mitigation but unless you have a considerable number of points you would probably be as well to accept a fixed penalty rather then risking the court costs and legal fees.

But surely now you know why this is happening, you should be getting it fixed.

Even using a handsfree phone in my opinion in todays density of traffic is dangerous.Only use in a emergency or switch the thing off. These phones seem to be ruling a lot of peoples lives the amount of people i see everyday having conversations on the mobile whilst walking and don't see where they going.!
